Five short patterns, five different faults. Each report below is the checker's actual output, not a mock-up. Copy any pattern, paste it into the studio, and compare — or paste one of your own and try to sneak an error past it.

1 · The count that lies — and which number to fix

Round 2's stitches make 12, but the line says 11. Most tools would stop at "mismatch". The checker runs round 3 on both candidates: only 12 below can reach the 18 it declares — so the stitches are right, and the number is the typo.

The count is the typo: this line should declare 12.Round 3 declares 18, which it only reaches worked on 12 stitches — not on 11. So the stitches written here are right and it is the number beside them that is wrong.

2 · The round that cannot be worked at all

Every stitch needs somewhere to go. Round 2 asks for seven anchors on a round that left six. No amount of tension fixes this; the pattern is unworkable as written.

3 · The counts all close — and it still ruffles

This is the one no counting tool sees. Round 3 makes exactly the 36 it declares; the arithmetic is flawless. But a flat sc round can only absorb about 6 new stitches, and this one adds 24 — extra edge with nowhere to lie.

4 · The cup hiding in a "flat" coaster

The piece grows at the full flat budget, holds steady, then adds only 2 where the budget is 6. That ratio is a cone of about 19° — a shallow bowl where a coaster was meant. The check waits until the piece has established a flat trajectory, so hats and amigurumi domes are never falsely accused.

5 · What it refuses to judge — on purpose

"Place one sc evenly around" is worked by eye; there is no exact total to compute, and a confident number here would be an invented one. The checker says what it read and stops. An honest refusal is part of the proof: a tool that never says "we cannot check this" is guessing somewhere.

Why this mattersThe checker only claims what it can stand behind. Where a pattern is worked by eye, counted in blocks, or written in a notation it cannot read, it says so instead of inventing a verdict.
